Book Reading, Discussion

Storytime at St. Pete Beach Library

19 August 3:00 pm - 19 August 4:00 pm

Storytime at St. Pete Beach Library is free and open to the public.

Children and adults are invited to join in an in-person author visit with Sherry Duquet.  Sherry will be reading her bestselling children’s book, Violet the Hugging Octopus in her true animated form, sharing the joy of self-love with both littles and bigs.  She will also demonstrate Violet’s self-hugging technique with the audience.

A brief Q&A will follow, encouraging attendees to ask the author questions about the characters in the book, being an author or more insight about the book.  The Seaside Chat questions from the back of the book may be a source for more reader engagement during the storytime with words of positive self-esteem woven into the discussion.

The St. Pete Beach Library requested Sherry as a featured author in the summer reading series, Oceans of Possibilities.  It is a perfect fit for Violet and her undersea friends.

Note to educators:  Violet the Hugging Octopus is characterized as a touchstone book for social emotional learning.  It carries a theme of positive self-esteem, acceptance of self and others with an underlying message to support anti-bullying curriculum.  Additionally, for early readers, there is a wealth of sight words in the book.

Free, downloadable activities pages are available on the website for you to include as you choose in your planner, see Activities.
